The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) will hold an ISBAT trial to determine the beginning of Shawwal 1446 Hijriyah or Idulfitri holiday on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This session is an important moment for Muslims in Indonesia to find out when the day of victory after a month of fasting Ramadan.
ISBAT SCIENCE AND PROCESS
The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance Ministry of Religion, Abu Rokhmad, confirmed that the ISBAT trial will be held at the Ministry of Religion, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jakarta. The event will begin with the Hilal position seminar in the afternoon, followed by a closed ISBAT trial, and ends with a press conference to announce the results to the public.
Isbat session is an annual tradition involving astronomers, scholars, and representatives of Islamic organizations. This process is carried out to ensure the visibility of the hilal (crescent moon) as a marker of the beginning of the month of Shawwal.
Muhammadiyah has set Idulfitri March 31
Before the Ministry of Religion held an ISBAT trial, PP Muhammadiyah had already set the Idulfitri 1446 H fell on Monday, March 31, 2025. This determination was based on the method HISAB ESMARICIANwhich refers to astronomical calculations without waiting for visual observations of the new moon.
Interestingly, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar predicts that this year’s Eid al-Fitri will most likely be simultaneously between the government and Islamic mass organizations, including Muhammadiyah. This is caused by the height of the new moon which is estimated to be too low to be seen on March 30, 2025.
“Our Eid is predicted to fall on March 31, 2025,” Nasaruddin said in a press conference at the Police College of Sciences, South Jakarta, last Monday (10/3).
Idulfitri uniformity potential
If the Ministry of Religion’s prediction is proven to be true, then Idulfitri 1446 H will be celebrated simultaneously by all Muslims in Indonesia. This will be good news for people who often face the differences in holidays between the government and certain mass organizations.
However, the final decision is still waiting for the results of the ISBAT trial on March 29. The community is advised to continue to monitor official information from the Ministry of Religion through the mass media or digital platforms.
