BYD records the highest sales growth in Indonesia in February 2025

LifestyleautomotiveBYD records the highest sales growth in Indonesia in February 2025

BYD car sales, Automotive brand from China, recorded the most rapid growth in Indonesia in February 2025. Data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) showed that sales of byd wholesale jumped 25.6% to 1,399 units, while retail sales rose 48.1% to 1,488 units. This growth is far beyond the performance of European and Japanese brands, including Toyota and Mercedes-Benz.

However, the BYD market share in Indonesia is still relatively small, which is only 1.3% for wholesale and retail sales. This figure is still far below Toyota, who remains a market leader with a 32.5% share in both segments. However, Toyota’s growth was fairly stagnant, with wholesale sales only rose 3.7% to 31,589 units and retail sales grew slightly 0.4 to 30,107 units.

Mercedes-Benz experienced a decline in sales

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz, who is the leader of the European car market in Indonesia, actually experienced a decline in sales. In February 2025, Mercedes-Benz wholesale sales fell 13.3% to 357 units, while retail sales fell 15.4% to 330 units. This decline shows the challenges faced by European brands in the face of competition with Asian brands, especially China.

Indonesian car market as a whole

Overall, the Indonesian car market in February 2025 showed a diverse trend. Wholesale sales rose slightly 0.3% to 95,377 units, while retail sales actually dropped 3.9% to 87,384 units. This data indicates that despite growth in several segments, the Indonesian automotive market still faces challenges, especially in terms of consumer purchasing power.

Supporting factors by BYD growth

The rapid growth of byd is inseparable from the aggressive strategy of this brand in entering the Indonesian market. By presenting environmentally friendly electric cars and hybrid cars, BYD has succeeded in attracting consumers who are increasingly caring for environmental issues and energy efficiency. In addition, competitive prices and advanced technology features are also the main attraction of byd products.

Despite recording impressive growth, BYD still has to struggle to expand its market share in Indonesia. The main challenge is to build consumer trust in Chinese brands, which have been considered less prestige than Japanese and European brands. In addition, supporting infrastructure such as charging stations for electric vehicles also needs to be increased so that Byd growth can be more optimal.
