JAKARTA – PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex), one of the Indonesian textile giants, officially stopped its operations on Saturday, March 1, 2025. This decision resulted in more than 10,000 workers lost their livelihoods. However, good news came from the government. Within the next two weeks, the workers affected by the Termination of Employment (PHK) have the opportunity to return to work and receive wages.
Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, conveyed this good news after attending an emergency meeting chaired by President Prabowo Subianto. The meeting was attended by a number of ministers, curator teams, and representatives of the Sritex Trade Union. The goal is to find the best solution to overcome the impact of mass layoffs that occur after the closing of the company.
“In the next two weeks, workers affected by layoffs will be re -employed. This is the first step to provide peace to them, “Yassierli said at the Presidential Office, Central Jakarta, Monday (3/3/2025).
Asset rental strategy to turn back on jobs
One of the solutions carried is the rental of Sritex assets by the curator team. This step was taken to maintain the value of the company’s assets while waiting for the auction process which took a long time. Nurma Sadikin, representative of the curator team, explained that there were already investors who were interested in renting Sritex’s assets. With the rent of these assets, tenants can take advantage of existing textile production facilities.
“Rental of assets will open up opportunities for temporary employment for layoff victims. They can return to work under new tenants, “explained Nurma.
Do workers need to apply again?
Although this news gives a breath of fresh air, there are still big questions: do workers need to apply again to be able to work under new tenants? Nurma was reluctant to provide certainty. According to him, the recruitment process is entirely the authority of asset tenants.
“We cannot ascertain whether all workers affected by layoffs will be re -employed without going through the application process. This depends on the tenant’s policy, “said Nurma.
Temporary solutions to the uncertain future
Nurma also emphasized that this job opportunity is temporary. After the lease ends, the fate of the workers will depend on the winner of the Sritex asset auction. If the auction winner decides to continue the textile business, they have the potential to re -employ former Sritex employees.
“For now, workers will work with asset tenants. After the auction is over, the decision is in the hands of the auction winner, “Nurma said.
