Provincial government DKI Jakarta again held a free homecoming program in 2025, by preparing 293 buses to take Jakarta residents home to 20 cities in six provinces. This program records an increase in the number of fleets compared to the previous year, which only provided 259 buses. This step is taken to meet the high demand for people who want to go home without cost.
The Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), Syafrin Liputo, explained that the enthusiasm of the community towards the free homecoming program in 2024 was very high, so that many residents had not been served. “Therefore, this year we increase the number of buses so that more people can feel the benefits,” Syafrin said at a press conference at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (2/17/2025).
Routes and goals going home
The 2025 free homecoming program will reach 20 cities in six provinces, including South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, and East Java. Some cities that are the main destinations include Palembang (South Sumatra), Bandar Lampung (Lampung), Kuningan and Tasikmalaya (West Java), and Tegal, Pekalongan, and Sragen (Central Java). In addition, this program also serves routes to Yogyakarta and several cities in East Java such as Blitar and Malang.
Not only facilitating homecoming travel, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also prepared 228 buses for backflow. The buses will transport travelers from the destination cities to return to Jakarta after Eid. In addition, the government also provides 10 special trucks to transport two -wheeled vehicles belonging to travelers, ensuring the home trip runs smoothly and comfortably.
Community response
This free homecoming program received a positive response from Jakarta residents. One of the prospective travelers, Rina (32), admitted that he was greatly helped by this facility. “Last year I did not get a chair because of the long queue. Alhamdulillah this year there is an additional buses, so the hope is that he can go home without having to worry about transportation costs, “he said.
However, some residents hope that the government can continue to increase the capacity of the fleet and expand the range of routes in the coming years. “Hopefully in the future not only big cities, but also small areas can be served,” hoped Andi (45), a resident of South Jakarta.
Optimism of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government
Syafrin Liputo asserted that this free homecoming program is a form of commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in facilitating the needs of the community, especially ahead of the Eid moment. “We hope that this program can ease the burden on Jakarta residents who want to gather with families in their hometown,” he said.
With the addition of fleet and supporting facilities, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is optimistic that the 2025 free homecoming program will run more smoothly and be able to reach more people. This program is also expected to reduce congestion on the homecoming path and improve travel safety.
Challenge ahead
Although it has increased the number of buses, the biggest challenges remain in the high interest of the community. For this reason, the government plans to conduct a thorough evaluation after the program is completed, to ensure better services in the following years.
The free 2025 free homecoming program will begin on the D-7 Lebaran, with registration that is opened online through the official platform of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The community is advised to prepare the necessary documents and register as soon as possible given the limited quota.
With all the preparations that have been made, this program is expected not only to be a transportation solution, but also a concrete manifestation of government concern for the needs of the community at special moments such as Eid.
